Capt Benning is the Recruiting Officer, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), Detachment 215, Bloomington, Indiana. He is responsible for Air Force ROTC cadet recruitment and retention for Indiana University, Butler University, Indiana University Indianapolis, and Purdue University Indianapolis.

Capt Benning commissioned in May 2020 through ROTC from Indiana University as an Intelligence Officer. With over 4 years on Active Duty, he has served as Intelligence Officer in Charge, Intelligence Flight Commander, and Cyber Planner. Prior to his current assignment, Capt Benning led cyber planning for the 837th Cyberspace Operations Squadron.
